WIDT - Jan 31

Wow. I left this open all day and didn't write a thing. Here's a recap, then:

Spent most of my day trying to revive an iMac. Original problem with it was that it kept losing it's credentials in the lab and not allowing any of the students to log in. We use Boot Camp to dual boot to Mac and Windows. The Windows side was okay but the Mac side would shake at them. This happens because the time on the Windows side would be different on the Mac side, so it wouldn't authenticate. When this happens, I can usually change the time back and change the server where the Mac side gets the time. In extreme cases, I will have to unbind it from the servers & then rebind.

This one in particular wouldn't allow the rebind so I brought it back to my office. I've reset permissions, original settings, etc. - still no rebind. Tried to reinstall Mac OSX, unsuccessful. Tried resetting PRAM, didn't work. Found out we have a firmware password & it's making it difficult to start from scratch. Before I left the office, we were researching how to reset or turn off the firmware password but I have found nothing. Bah.

Also, only ate a pear and had 2 large cups of coffee today. I know, I know. Not healthy. Trying to shrink the stomach but that's a little extreme. Will try to eat more tomorrow.

Got home & my mom offered to make hot dogs for the kids. I seasoned up some turkey meat with seasoned salt and garlic salt for me & Shawn. Made 4 patties and fried them on the stovetop. Shawn ate them like burgers with bread/fixings and I just ate mine like chopped steak. Very yummy, maybe a tad on the salty side. I meant to put one of mine away for tomorrow's lunch but I was just too hungry after not eating all day. Ally wanted to stay with my mom so I didn't protest.

Back home, we found Pawn Stars on the History Channel and watched a bit. I decided now was the best time to work out. Treadmilled 2 miles, took 23 minutes and burned 335 calories. Did the thing again where I ran 4 minutes, then walked 1 minute. Linkin Park made it easy to run fast!

8:37 Sitting here, typing this out while my 5 year old tries to go to sleep. My typing is too loud so it's not happening. Haven't showered yet so I feel salty and sticky. Gross. Am going to try to do some kickboxing in the garage after he falls asleep. Bought a standing bag last Christmas and it's fun to beat the shit out of.

9:53 Whew. Decided kickboxing the bag might be too loud so I decided to play Kinect Dance Central. I chose Pon De Replay by Rihanna, figured there'd be some bootie shakin' & I was right! Played the easy version with 100% moves passed so I thought I'd try the medium version. It was tougher with more moves to remember but I passed 93%. Quite a workout. I probably should have danced a couple more times but my core hurts & if I keep going, I'll be cramping big time tomorrow.

Plus, Pawn Stars is still on. Addicting.

The Boring Weekend

Not much to report for the weekend. Filled with housework and playing with my kids.

Saturday Took the boys to the ballpark, Colby has tryouts and Shawn just wants to practice a little with Dylan. Waited in line for a good hour + 45 because they combined the 8 yr olds and the 7 yr olds on one field. Colby did well. He did not get his bat on any of the balls but we were satisfied with his swing. It was level and strong, he just didn't hit anything! He also stopped his grounders and threw to first well.  Did not catch the fly balls but he got his glove on 2 of them. All in all, a good tryout for his level.

Sunday 3:20 Treadmilled 3 miles, running 4 minutes + walking 1 minute. Took 36 minutes to finish those 3 miles. Felt really good. Much better than straight running. Guess I will keep doing this, increasing 4 minutes to 5, then 6, and so on.

I am sweating and my face is super red. My 2 year old comes up and says Hey you all wet! You nose is burned!

Finally gave in

What I'm Doing Today - Jan 28

T-shirt of the Day:
Yep, BFD

Too early: kids woke up, dropped them all off at school, headed to work.

8:00 Arrived at work. Need to wake up badly, eyes are very heavy. Will try coffee first. If that doesn't help, I've got a 5 hour Energy in my purse that will take care of me.

9:49 Been personalizing a laptop for a teacher today. Just weighed myself & I'm down 3 pounds since Monday morning. Yay and stuff. Still tired from staying up too late last night. Will be paying for it all day. Part of me wants to have whatever I want for lunch and party of me thinks that's stupid since I'm losing weight. Blaming it on dead-brain and will think about it again later.

11:30 Still haven't decided on what to have for lunch today. Guess I'll make a smoothie and see how that goes. Been at my desk for most of the day and still have Vegas on the brain. Re-reading all of my Vegas Trip Reports, torturing myself. I need help.

12:43 A Facebook friend shared this article on the newsreel. Big Coach, Little Gym.  I had to keep clicking away from the page to stop myself from getting teary-eyes while reading it. My father was a coach for, I don't know, 40 years. My brother is a coach. We all played basketball through college. We can relate to the dedication this coach had for basketball. I always thought my Dad would go this way but thankfully, he stopped coaching a few years ago. Now I only have to worry about him going while at the poker table.

2:18 So, very boring Friday. Sorry if there's actually someone reading this today. Still trying to work on Jolicloud, helping with the occasional password reset and network permission issue. Listening right now to a teacher chew out some eighth graders in the hallway. I've realized I could never be an actual teacher, I wouldn't be able to stop myself from cussing at them when I got upset.

WIDT - Jan 27

7:10 Colby frantically wakes me up, saying "It's Thursday! A school day!", like we had slept until 9 and missed school. Funny.

7:40 Dropped Colby off at school

7:50 About to run a couple of miles (hopefully). Missed doing it last night because of playing poker. Bah.

8:15 Finished running. Ran 1.609 miles in 18:40 at 5.2 speed. Made a great playlist today - favorite was Eve 6 "Open Road Song", really had me going. Had every intention of running that and then dancing a few songs on Kinect Dance Central but just ran out of time. I'm supposed to be back at Colby's school for his Honor Roll breakfast at 8:30! Plus I have to make him a lunch! Jeez.

8:16 PB&J, Pringles, string cheese and juice into the Speed Racer lunchbox and then up to shower. I just can't take a fast shower, hair in pigtails and out the door at 8:32.

8:35 Arrive at school. Colby is waiting for me in the hallway, frantically looking, afraid I wasn't going to make it. Donuts for breakfast, my willpower was strong this morning. Good thing I was late, though, we had a seat near the door and after the Honor Roll certificate presentations, I was the first out of the cafeteria and first out of the parking lot. Yay me.

I giggled when a kid named Montoya got his certificate. I wanted to ask if his father's name was Inigo.

9:20 Get home to find the hubs came home from work. Slacker.

9:30 On way to work. Creeper on a riding mower just outside our neighborhood is just sitting there, staring. ewww.

Hair is flippy today. Rushed shower = no lotion on face. Very dry.

9:50 Arrive at work. Loads to do today. Need to test Jolicloud more, very excited. We recently demoted one of our DNS servers and just realized today that we needed to run ipconfig /renew on all of our machines on campus. Assembly line stuff all morning, then. Plus I have to get info from a failing HD, save it and then build a new laptop for one of our teachers.

I can't stop spacing twice after periods. I have to go back and take a space away when I'm done typing. It's just something that I was taught very young, very hard habit to break. Peter Cetera.

12:10 Made a few rounds to update computers. Hungry now. Rushed out of the door this morning so I don't have much. Some cut cantaloupe, maybe an orange. Guess it's orange food day. Sunkist and Cheetos, here I come!

1:17 Ate my fruit and still hungry. Trying to drink alot of water.  Listening to Barenaked Ladies today. "I made you say underwear"

2:23 A lot of running around today and not much happened. Read a few Las Vegas trip reports on a few different forums. Can you tell I really want to go back? Like now? It's been 2 years and I'm going through withdrawals. I'd like to plan a girl's trip with me, my sister in law, and a few friends. But I'll be more likely to talk the hubs into a summer trip.

2:59 Decided on another cup of coffee to curb my hungriness. Had a conversation with a co-worker about American Idol. Disgusted with the parents that lie to their children, telling them that they are great singers when they are obviously tone deaf. Encourage your children, give them all they need to succeed. But if they think they are great because you tell them over and over again that they are and they aren't really great, they will get made fun of and it will be your fault. Ugh.

4:51 About to head out. Spent the last hour changing the rc.local file on every freaking Mac in that lab. Hidden file so I had to change permissions on 3 different folders just so I could adjust the server that it was pointing to. Hate working with Macs in a Windows environment. Not seamless. Not smooth. Yes headache.

8:45 Played xbox 360 Kinect Dance Central. Did easy versions of Bust a Move, Hella Good, Poison and Just Dance (highest difficulty dance) all at 98-100% accuracy. So I think I can do Just Dance at medium version. Wrong! Felt ridiculous because I was trying to hop around and do these moves that were way over my head. I'll try medium versions of the other songs next time. Danced for about an hour, got a decent workout.

But then, I stayed up to watch some recorded shows. I was 2 weeks behind on The Office, so I watched those. And I am about 8 weeks behind on Castle so I watched one of those. Love that show. But now it's midnight. Sometimes I am so stupid. Never get any sleep.

WIDT - Jan 26

I'm going to try listing the things that I do or the things that happen around me during the day. My BFF and I used to make lists in college and they were always fun. Here goes.

Today's T-shirt:

I'm a Ghostbuster!

7:15 Dropped Colby off at school for breakfast

7:25 Dropped Dylan and Ally off at daycare

7:30 Put $20 worth of gas in my van (Dragon Dictation heard this as "$20 working it")

8:05 Arrived at work

This ridiculous song the kid's listened to this morning is stuck in my head. Help me.

Three giant dinosaurs flying in the sky
Two say to the one, let's have a pterodactyl pie
I think I'm gonna eat you, chomp chomp chomp
I think I'm gonna eat you, chomp chomp chomp
I think I'm gonna eat you, it's been really nice to meet you
1, 2, 3, 4, chomp chomp chomp.

Been on a semi-diet for 2 days now and I'm already craving things. Pork cracklins. What the hell is up with that? Although, there's protein in them, right? (Dragon Dictation heard this as something about Friday night. I give up on that program.)

8:20 Made coffee - added Skinny Latte creamer. Yum.

8:21-8:28 Had conversation with co-worker about workout out, motivation, training, etc. Told her my ultimate goal was doing a Triathlon. Ended with me promising to burn her a copy of the Kenpo X disc of P90X. Love that workout. It's one of those workouts that you feel GREAT afterwards. Not like you need to puke.

8:31 Began this post. Then checked my regular daily sites: Woot!, Questionable Content, TMZ, Girls with Slingshots, 9gag, The Daily What, Pop URLs, Facebook & Twitter.

8:44 Bought this shirt from Tanga for $4.99 + $1.99 shipping.  Sweet!
No, I will not fix your computer for free

9:12 Trying to rebuild old IBM laptop with the hopes of loading Jolicloud on it. Sounds awesome so we'll see how it works out.

9:40 Installing a backup program on this extra admin PC so that I won't have to rebuild from scratch the next time someone decides to click on sketchy crap and install viruses or malware. Just because we have anti-virus program doesn't mean you are completely immune. If your house has an alarm system & you allow a sketchy dude inside, the alarm system isn't going to stop him from snooping in your undies.

10:00 Got a frantic call about a printer not working. Yeah, it helps if you haven't unplugged the USB cable from your computer because it was "in the way".

10:07 Schooled a co-worker in the countless ways and reasons I love and am obsessed with Eddie Vedder.

10:11 DAMNED FIRE ALARM!

10:23 Now I have a headache. Already had one because I'm wearing pigtails today. Bah.

10:29 While rebuilding 2 laptops, I'm perusing Restaurant.com. Trying to find deals here in Houston and in Vegas. We have to go if I have a $25 gift certificate, right? That's totally worth it!

10:42 Purchased a Living Social deal for Houston: iT'Z Family Food & Fun (Chuck E Cheese type place).  For $24, I get a pizza buffet, 90 minutes of play (no idea what that means), 200 prize tickets and 3 attraction credits. The kids will enjoy that.

10:59 Just got back to my office after walking across campus to see why a particular student couldn't access a class folder. And it's because the teacher didn't include her name on the list of allowed students. Also got to see some of the middle schoolers playing lacrosse in the courtyard on my way back. You wanna go to school, here, don't you?

11:00 Can't get wireless card in this old IBM to work, despite installing every possible driver. Gonna have to open it up. Yay.

11:30 Made a smoothie at school, thanks to my little knock-off Bullet blender thingy. Blueberries, cherries, blackberries, apple juice, tiny sugar = yum.

12:23 Smoothie was good. Trying to decide if I should purchase my cart on Restaurant.com.  I have 6 or 7 items totaling $19. Some Houston, some Vegas.

12:36 Ugh, finally got this wireless card to work. Why are there 5 different drivers listed on the website for this particular laptop? Seriously?

1:07 Woo Hoo! Down 2 pounds since Monday morning on the school's weight room scales. It's not hard for me to change my diet, eat very little and lose weight. I've done it many times before. The kicker is going to be working in exercise along with it. I know those 2 pounds I lost are probably NOT the substance I want to lose because I'm not eating much at all. Probably losing fat + muscle. And frankly, I've done the "lose weight by not eating" deal before and then put it right back on again. If I can really commit to exercising via p90x or running on my treadmill or riding a bike (when I buy one!), I am confident that I can get my body to where I am comfortable with it. I'm not naive enough to think I can get back to HS or college days. Seriously. I was a Division I college athlete. I used to work out every day for hours. Since then, I've given birth 4 times. No way in HELL this body will ever be close to that body again. I'm only a little concerned with the number on the scale but more concerned with how "in shape" I can get myself and how my clothes fit. I miss being able to do any activity I wanted to do.

I do want to get involved with racing more. I've done RunTheJailbreak in DFW which is an obstacle race, about 3 miles. I'm signed up for Warrior Dash in Conroe in March and Survive WW3.5 in Orange in April.  They are really fun races, with muddy obstacles and things to climb over.  Eventually, I'd like to run a Triathlon, albeit a small one or even a half marathon. I just need to commit, do the work & it'll make me happy.

2:12 Downloading Jolicloud on this old IBM. The .iso image is taking forever. But almost done. Then we'll see how awesome it really is.

2:49 Pearl Jam - State of Love and Trust.  love love love love love love LOVE LOVE

4:25 Eating an orange, yum. Also finished installing jolicloud and it's sweet looking. Playing with apps and stuff. Haven't been able to open a word type document yet, trying to figure out how. But really cool.

4:50 Headed home

5:30 Took Colby to Luby's. Ugh. Hate that place. But he loves it. Also, kids eat free on Wednesday.

6:30 Got home in time to see that last 20 minutes of Empire Records. Shawn was playing a Full Tilt Poker Rush Tournament.

7:00 American Idol time. Steven Tyler is the saving grace, if there even is any, this year. I miss Simon.

7:28 Registered for Daniel Negreanu's $11 private tournament on Poker Stars.  Also, these people can NOT sing. Awful. Seriously?

8:10 Earned a Step 2 tournament entry on Full Tilt & playing Daniel's tourney on Poker Stars.

8:19 The commerical where the parents tell the 2 kids that they are going to DisneyWorld in a couple of hours & the kids jump up and scream makes me tear up every time. Hope I can do that for my kids one day.

11:00 Still in this Negreanu tournament. Down to 30. For sure getting my entry back + knocked out 2 people, so won $4 for bounty. Need to make top 5 for at least $100. I needed to work out tonight but been playing poker for 3 freaking hours. Guess I'll have to run in the morning.

12:34am Just finished. Went out 7th for $54.62. Freaking tired.

Hello

I doubt that I'll write anything all that interesting but since I've got my hands into almost every other form of internet expression, blogging seems like the next step.  I have 2 sites that are badly in need of updating.  One in which I chronicle my family's events and another where I have stored my trip reports to Las Vegas. Here I just want to write things about everyday events or thoughts or whatever. Guess this place will be mostly for me.

My posts will be about silly things my kids say and do, food I eat, workouts, poker or my job. I'm sure that occasionally, I'll complain about something.

If I amuse you, that's cool.

Lunch with Sonya - Cafe Express

Going to have lunch today with a friend/former co-worker whom I haven't seen in ages.  She's a super cool and super talented artist and photographer. Healthy eating at Cafe Express was her choice so we'll see if I can find something to eat that will fill me up for the rest of the day. I've been eating so bad lately...cheeseburgers, pizza, fried seafood, pastries. Gotta get back to healthy eating.  Today is a start.

Had the turkey burger, fresh fruit and a side Caesar salad. Plus added sundried tomatoes and capers to my salad. Turkey burger was not dry, flavorful, very good. Salad was like any other Caesar but with the addition of the capers was very good. Didn't even taste the sundried tomaotes, really. I know Caesar isn't the best choice but I like it, so there.

Miss her. Her birthday party is coming up and I have lucky enough to be on "the list" of invites so looking forward to it.

Also, who wears all white turtlenecks anymore?  Chunky girl in the corner really should have worn something over that. </dig>
